Transforming a Content Website Into a Full Shopify Store
Urban Sign Print needed more than a platform migration. The existing website was primarily a content-focused WordPress site and did not provide a complete ecommerce experience where customers could browse products, add them to a cart, and place orders directly online.
The project became an opportunity to solve several challenges at once: migrate the existing website from WordPress to Shopify, introduce a complete online sales system, and completely redesign the storefront and user experience.
Instead of simply reproducing the existing website on a new platform, we transformed it into a full Shopify ecommerce store with a product catalog, shopping cart, and Shopify Checkout.
From the beginning, the project centered on:
- migrating the existing WordPress website to Shopify;
- preserving important content and SEO pages;
- transforming a content-driven website into a complete ecommerce storefront;
- creating a new visual identity and interface;
- building a clearer path from content discovery to product purchase;
- implementing the new design directly in Shopify.
From a Content Website to a Complete Ecommerce Experience
The most important aspect of the project was the transformation itself.
The original Urban Sign Print website was primarily designed to provide information and content. Customers could learn about the business and its offerings, but the website did not function as a complete online store.
With the move to Shopify, we introduced the missing ecommerce layer.
The new storefront allows customers to:
- browse the product catalog;
- view product information;
- select products for purchase;
- add products to the shopping cart;
- proceed through the purchasing flow;
- complete orders through Shopify Checkout.
This changed the role of the website completely. Instead of functioning primarily as a digital information resource, it became a full ecommerce channel capable of supporting direct online sales.
The migration therefore became much more than a technical WordPress to Shopify migration. It was a complete ecommerce transformation built around the new commercial goals of the website.
Building a New Shopify Storefront Architecture
Moving from a content-focused WordPress structure to an ecommerce-focused Shopify storefront required more than simply adding product pages.
The existing content needed to work alongside a new product catalog, collections, cart, and purchasing journey. This meant reconsidering how information was structured and how users moved through the site.
We developed the new storefront around a more flexible Shopify architecture with:
- custom page sections;
- reusable content components;
- redesigned content blocks;
- product-focused layouts;
- ecommerce-specific page elements;
- responsive layouts for desktop, tablet, and mobile.
This created a Shopify reusable section architecture that allowed the new design to remain consistent while providing enough flexibility for different types of content.
Rather than treating every page as an isolated design, the storefront was built from reusable components that could support the broader structure of the new Shopify store.
Custom Shopify Design and Full Storefront Redesign
The migration was also used as an opportunity to completely rethink the visual presentation of Urban Sign Print.
We developed a new visual concept and redesigned the main pages of the website, including the structure and positioning of individual content blocks.
The redesign focused on creating a more modern and consistent interface while adapting the visual language of the original content website to a new ecommerce environment.
Our work included:
- developing a new visual direction;
- restructuring key pages;
- redesigning content blocks;
- improving visual hierarchy;
- adapting layouts to product-oriented content;
- creating a consistent user interface across the storefront.
This resulted in a custom Shopify storefront design rather than a simple migration of the existing WordPress appearance.
The new design was created specifically around the requirements of an online store, allowing content and ecommerce functionality to work together as one experience.
Creating a Clear Path From Content to Purchase
One of the key UX challenges was connecting the site's existing informational content with its new commercial functionality.
On a content-focused website, users primarily consume information. On an ecommerce website, that information should also help users move toward a product and, ultimately, a purchase.
We therefore reworked the user journey to make the transition between content discovery and shopping more natural.
The new experience provides a clearer path from:
content → product discovery → product selection → cart → checkout
This meant improving how products were presented and making key product information easier to access.
The result is a more structured Shopify ecommerce UX where informational content and commercial functionality support each other instead of operating as separate parts of the website.
Product Catalog and Ecommerce Functionality
Introducing a product catalog was a fundamental part of transforming Urban Sign Print into an ecommerce store.
The new Shopify implementation includes dedicated product presentation and the functionality required to support online purchasing.
We focused on creating product pages that provide the information customers need while fitting naturally into the redesigned storefront.
The ecommerce implementation included:
- product catalog organization;
- product presentation;
- product information layouts;
- add-to-cart functionality;
- shopping cart functionality;
- the complete path toward checkout.
This established the core infrastructure required for a Shopify online store and gave Urban Sign Print a direct sales channel that was not available in the original content-focused website.
Custom Shopify Development and Reusable Components
The new design was implemented directly in Shopify rather than being treated as a separate visual layer.
We developed the required Shopify sections and reusable components to reproduce the new visual system while keeping the storefront flexible for future content changes.
The development approach focused on:
- reusable Shopify sections;
- adaptable content components;
- custom page layouts;
- product-oriented storefront elements;
- responsive behavior;
- integration of the new design with Shopify's ecommerce functionality.
This gave the store a stronger Shopify custom theme development foundation and made the new interface easier to maintain as the business continues to expand its online presence.
Responsive Shopify Storefront Development
Because the new website needed to serve customers across different devices, the redesigned storefront was developed with responsive behavior from the beginning.
The interface was adapted for:
- desktop;
- tablet;
- mobile.
This was particularly important for the new ecommerce journey. Product discovery, product information, cart interactions, and the transition toward checkout all needed to remain clear and usable regardless of screen size.
The result is a more consistent responsive Shopify ecommerce experience across the full customer journey.
UX Improvements Across the Shopping Journey
The redesign was not limited to visual changes. A major part of the project was improving how users interact with the website.
We simplified the way customers navigate the catalog and made important product information more accessible.
The UX improvements focused on:
- easier product discovery;
- clearer product presentation;
- improved information hierarchy;
- stronger connections between content and products;
- a more understandable purchasing path;
- smoother navigation from product discovery to checkout.
These changes helped turn the website into a more coherent Shopify customer journey, where the different stages of the experience — content, catalog, product selection, cart, and checkout — work together.
SEO-Focused WordPress to Shopify Migration
Because the existing website already contained valuable content and established SEO pages, preserving its search visibility was an important part of the migration.
Before moving the website, we reviewed the existing content structure and identified important pages that needed to be retained in the new Shopify implementation.
The migration process included:
- analyzing the existing website structure;
- preserving important SEO content and pages;
- maintaining key content wherever possible;
- configuring the necessary Shopify redirects;
- checking important SEO elements after migration;
- validating the accessibility and availability of key pages.
This allowed the redesign and ecommerce transformation to take place without treating SEO as an afterthought.
The goal was to create a new Shopify storefront while maintaining continuity between the existing WordPress website and its new ecommerce version.
Combining Migration, Redesign, and Ecommerce Development
What makes the Urban Sign Print project particularly significant is that several traditionally separate website projects were handled as one transformation.
The project combined:
- WordPress to Shopify migration;
- full visual redesign;
- Shopify custom development;
- ecommerce implementation;
- UX restructuring;
- product catalog creation;
- cart and checkout implementation;
- SEO migration.
Each part influenced the others.
The new design had to work with ecommerce functionality. The content structure had to work with product discovery. The UX had to support the purchasing journey. And the migration had to preserve important content and SEO pages while introducing an entirely new commercial layer.
This made the project a true Shopify ecommerce transformation, rather than a simple platform switch.
The Result: A New Shopify Ecommerce Channel
Urban Sign Print finished the project with more than a new platform and a redesigned interface.
The existing content-focused website was transformed into a complete Shopify ecommerce store with:
- a product catalog;
- product-focused pages;
- shopping cart functionality;
- online purchasing;
- Shopify Checkout;
- a completely redesigned storefront;
- reusable Shopify sections;
- responsive layouts;
- an improved customer journey;
- preserved SEO content and important pages.
The migration allowed Urban Sign Print to solve several business and technical challenges within a single project: move from WordPress to Shopify, modernize the entire visual experience, improve UX, and establish a new direct channel for online sales.
For Crocode, Urban Sign Print is a strong example of Shopify migration combined with full ecommerce redesign — turning an existing content website into a commercially capable online store while preserving valuable content and building a more modern, scalable user experience.

Why customers stay with us for a long time
Shopify web development agency do not work as contractors who just «work out the task», but as partners who think the same way as you, the business owner. For us, not only the process is important, but also the real result: sales growth, customer loyalty, and investment efficiency. That's why we don't just make a website or run ads — we are responsible for making sure that these tools really work for your business.
Security is not a formality for us. We first implement all edits and updates into the test environment to check how they will affect the system. Our analysts study and verify everything beforehand. Backup is enabled by default, and access to critical data is strictly limited. Your business should not suffer because of technical experiments, so we act cautiously but confidently.
And most importantly, we measure success not by the number of pages created or banners launched, but by real business metrics: conversion growth, an increase in the average receipt for marketing, and an increase in the customer's lifetime value (LTV). If this does not happen, we return to the drawing board. Because for our team, a good result is not a completed order, but your satisfied customer and growing profit.
