The Brief

Crocode migrated Newrock from WordPress to Shopify while preserving its existing content, product catalog, and core site structure. The project included configuring payment gateways and Shopify Checkout, testing payment flows and transactions, and adapting the existing ecommerce infrastructure to the new platform. We also reworked the site's navigation and collection structure to make product discovery more intuitive, simplify access to key categories, and improve the experience across desktop and mobile. The migration included URL and internal linking checks, necessary redirects, and final technical QA to ensure a smooth transition while maintaining the site's SEO structure.

Migrating NEWROCK to Shopify With a New Ecommerce Navigation

NEWROCK needed more than a straightforward WordPress to Shopify migration. The existing website needed to retain its content and catalog while gaining the commercial infrastructure required for a reliable Shopify ecommerce experience.

At the same time, the existing navigation structure needed to be reconsidered. As the store's catalog and commercial functionality moved to Shopify, users needed a clearer way to find relevant categories, products, and sections.

The project therefore combined three core areas: Shopify migration, payment infrastructure, and navigation redesign.

From the beginning, the project centered on:

  • migrating the existing WordPress website to Shopify;
  • transferring products, catalog content, pages, and media;
  • configuring the required Shopify payment gateways;
  • validating the complete payment and checkout flow;
  • redesigning the site's main navigation and catalog structure;
  • improving product discovery and mobile navigation;
  • preserving SEO considerations while restructuring the site.

Migrating the Existing WordPress Website to Shopify

The first stage of the project was the migration of NEWROCK's existing website from WordPress to Shopify.

The goal was to move the existing website content into the new platform while adapting its structure to Shopify's ecommerce architecture.

The migration included:

  • existing website content;
  • product catalog;
  • product information;
  • pages and informational materials;
  • images;
  • required media assets.

The existing structure was then adapted to Shopify rather than simply reproduced as a one-to-one copy.

This allowed the new platform to support the requirements of a modern ecommerce store while retaining the content and product information that already existed on the WordPress website.

The result was a structured Shopify ecommerce foundation ready for the next stage of the project: payment configuration and a more effective navigation system.

Setting Up the Shopify Payment Infrastructure

A successful migration is not complete when products and pages appear correctly on the new platform. The commercial infrastructure also needs to work reliably.

For NEWROCK, we configured the required payment gateways in Shopify and verified the complete purchasing flow.

The payment implementation included:

  • connecting the required payment gateways;
  • configuring available payment methods;
  • checking the payment process;
  • running test transactions;
  • validating the Shopify Checkout flow after migration.

Testing was particularly important because payment functionality sits at the most critical point of the ecommerce journey.

A customer can browse the catalog and add products to a cart successfully, but the store still cannot function commercially if the payment and checkout process fails.

We therefore validated the complete flow from cart to Shopify Checkout, including test transactions before launch.

Redesigning the Main Store Navigation

One of the most important improvements in the project was the redesign of NEWROCK's navigation.

The existing structure was analyzed to identify ways to make the store easier to understand and reduce the effort required to reach important categories and products.

We redesigned the main navigation around a clearer catalog hierarchy, focusing on:

  • easier access to primary categories;
  • clearer organization of products;
  • improved category discovery;
  • more logical navigation between sections;
  • a structure compatible with Shopify Collections.

The objective was not simply to create a different menu. The navigation was redesigned as part of the broader Shopify information architecture.

This created a clearer relationship between the main menu, collections, category pages, and individual products.

Building a More Structured Shopify Collection System

The navigation redesign was closely connected to the structure of the catalog itself.

We configured the relevant Shopify Collections and associated pages so that users could move more naturally through the product hierarchy.

A well-structured collection system provides an important layer between the main navigation and individual product pages. It allows customers to first identify the category they need and then narrow their selection through the relevant products.

For NEWROCK, this meant creating a more coherent path:

main navigation → category → collection → product

This structure also provided a stronger foundation for future catalog growth because new products and categories can be incorporated into an established navigation system rather than added to an increasingly complex menu.

Improving Product Discovery and Ecommerce UX

The navigation changes were primarily driven by UX.

The goal was to reduce unnecessary steps between a customer's starting point and the products or categories they are looking for.

The improved structure focused on:

  • making major categories easier to find;
  • reducing navigation complexity;
  • improving product discovery;
  • creating clearer relationships between collections and products;
  • making the store easier to understand at a glance.

These changes created a more straightforward Shopify ecommerce UX and helped turn the site's navigation into an active part of the purchasing journey.

Instead of making users work through a complex structure to find relevant products, the new navigation provides a clearer route through the catalog.

Optimizing Navigation for Mobile Users

The navigation redesign also accounted for the way customers interact with ecommerce stores on smaller screens.

Mobile navigation needs to provide the same basic catalog logic as desktop navigation while working within a much more constrained interface.

We therefore optimized the structure for mobile users with a focus on:

  • easier access to important categories;
  • clearer navigation hierarchy;
  • simpler movement through the catalog;
  • improved product discovery on smaller screens.

This helped create a more consistent responsive Shopify navigation across desktop and mobile experiences.

The objective was not to create two separate information architectures, but to make the same underlying catalog structure easier to use across different devices.

SEO-Safe Navigation and URL Restructuring

Changing navigation and catalog structure can have consequences beyond UX.

When categories, collections, and pages are reorganized, URLs and internal links may also change. That means a navigation redesign needs to account for SEO from the beginning.

As part of the NEWROCK project, we reviewed the structural changes and handled the necessary technical SEO checks.

This included:

  • reviewing URL changes after migration;
  • configuring required Shopify redirects;
  • checking internal links after restructuring;
  • verifying access to important pages;
  • checking the availability of key pages for search engines.

This approach helped ensure that the new navigation could be improved without treating the existing SEO structure as something separate from the redesign.

The result was a more usable catalog structure with the necessary technical measures to support continuity after the migration.

Post-Migration QA Across the Ecommerce Journey

The final stage of the project was dedicated to validating the new Shopify implementation before launch.

The QA process covered the main areas affected by the migration and restructuring:

  • migrated pages;
  • product catalog;
  • collections;
  • navigation;
  • internal links;
  • redirects;
  • payment functionality;
  • Shopify Checkout;
  • mobile behavior;
  • accessibility of important pages.

Payment functionality received particular attention because it had to be tested independently from the content and navigation migration.

Test transactions helped verify that the configured payment infrastructure was working correctly before the store was released.

This created a more controlled transition from the original WordPress website to the new Shopify environment.

Combining Migration, Payments, and Information Architecture

What makes the NEWROCK project different from a standard platform migration is the combination of technical and UX work.

The project addressed three connected layers of the ecommerce experience:

Platform:
The existing WordPress website was migrated to Shopify with its products, content, pages, and media.

Commerce:
The required payment gateways were configured and the complete Shopify Checkout flow was tested.

Navigation:
The site's information architecture was redesigned around clearer categories, collections, product discovery, and mobile usability.

These areas work together.

A well-structured catalog is more useful when customers can actually find products. A good navigation system is more valuable when the checkout process works reliably. And a functional payment system is only useful if customers can efficiently reach the products they want to purchase.

This made the project a broader Shopify ecommerce implementation rather than a simple CMS migration.

The Result: A Clearer and More Reliable Shopify Store

NEWROCK was successfully migrated from WordPress to Shopify with a new payment infrastructure and a redesigned navigation system.

The resulting Shopify store provides:

  • migrated products and catalog content;
  • preserved pages and informational materials;
  • configured Shopify payment gateways;
  • validated Shopify Checkout;
  • a redesigned main navigation;
  • structured Shopify Collections;
  • improved product discovery;
  • mobile-optimized navigation;
  • SEO-aware URL and redirect management;
  • validated internal links and key pages.

For Crocode, NEWROCK is a strong example of WordPress to Shopify migration combined with payment gateway setup and ecommerce navigation redesign.

The project demonstrates how a platform migration can also be used to improve the underlying information architecture — making the store easier to navigate, easier to maintain, and better prepared for continued commercial and SEO development.

Why customers stay with us for a long time

Shopify web development agency do not work as contractors who just «work out the task», but as partners who think the same way as you, the business owner. For us, not only the process is important, but also the real result: sales growth, customer loyalty, and investment efficiency. That's why we don't just make a website or run ads — we are responsible for making sure that these tools really work for your business.

Security is not a formality for us. We first implement all edits and updates into the test environment to check how they will affect the system. Our analysts study and verify everything beforehand. Backup is enabled by default, and access to critical data is strictly limited. Your business should not suffer because of technical experiments, so we act cautiously but confidently.

And most importantly, we measure success not by the number of pages created or banners launched, but by real business metrics: conversion growth, an increase in the average receipt for marketing, and an increase in the customer's lifetime value (LTV). If this does not happen, we return to the drawing board. Because for our team, a good result is not a completed order, but your satisfied customer and growing profit.
